Popis: | In a sample of patients admitted for treatment at a medical center clinic, 2.7% had a form of abnormal bone healing after tooth extraction. The repair was termed socket sclerosis. The patients with and without socket sclerosis were compared by sex and race, by disease category, and by surgical procedures. No sex or race predilection was apparent. In the analysis by 17 disease categories, the patients with socket sclerosis had a higher incidence of digestive and renal diseases than those without socket sclerosis. A greater frequency of abdominal surgical procedures was found for patients with socket sclerosis. Possibly, full-mouth radiographs showing socket sclerosis could be used to detect some gastrointestinal and renal diseases. |
