Popis: A 51-year-old woman referred herself to the Obstetric Unit in February 2001 demanding urgent attention on the grounds that she was about to give birth. Following an initial pregnancy test at home that she reported as positive (September 2000), the woman had visited two gynaecologists in September and November 2000 who repeated the pregnancy test, both with negative results. There were no clinical signs of pregnancy and two pelvic ultrasound examinations confirmed the absence of pregnancy. Furthermore, tubal ligation had been performed some 10 years earlier. The patient was a housewife who had been married since 1975. The couple had one child, a daughter aged 17. No abnormalities in the patient’s medical history were noted, and she was not on any hormone substitution therapy. The gynecological examination was normal, with no clinical signs of pregnancy. Her last menstrual period had been about 1 year previously and she had experienced hot flushes over the last 2 years.
