The temperature rise was monitored during the exothermic polymerization reaction of 5 selected visible light-activated composite resins cured with 5 activator lights. In general, temperature peaks occurring at curing times of less than 31 s were higher than those peaks occurring between 31 and 60 s of cure. The speed of the exothermic reaction of visible light composite resin materials increases with increasing intensity of the light source. A higher intensity light source is more effective in curing the resins than higher temperature generated by the light source. As a variable, the resin itself, rather than the light source, had a more pronounced, effect upon the temperature rise during curing. For those visible light-cured resins that take a long time to reach their peak temperature, a prolonged exposure time is needed to achieve a proper cure. |
