Popis: | In the Vignola cherry district, wrapping trees with nets to protect against cherry fruit fly (Rhagoletis cerasi) infestation has been tested since 2001. In initial trials (2001-2003), individual trees were wrapped with nets. In 2007-2008, blocks of tree rows were wrapped for different periods. Although this investigation has shown the suitability of this defence strategy for the complete prevention of the damage due to R. cerasi, it has to be considered that the net has to be positioned as early as possible after the first capture of adult fly and the treatment is effective only if the trees are covered till the fruit harvest. Other quality parameters of cherries do not seem to be seriously affected by the net, although a genotype influence is evidenced. |
