The goal of the index is to create a self-assessment tool for urban areas across different bioregions in Europe, based primarily on available datasets (Copernicus layers and biodiversity-related European datasets) and built on existing urban biodiversity frameworks as a basis for conceptualising the evaluation of ecosystem condition. The European Topic Centre on Biological Diversity has prepared this Working paper in collaboration with the European Environment Agency (EEA) under its 2018 work programmes as a contribution to the EEA’s work on biodiversity assessment. |
