Popis: [Helina quadrum (Fabricius)] (Figs 10A–D) Material examined. [NHMD]: Large sample of males and females from: Austria, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Spain and Sweden. Diagnosis. Medium to large sized, wing length reaching 8.0 mm. Body covered in dense light greyish pruinosity obscuring usual pattern of dark stripes on mesonotum; paired dark marks on the abdomen (Fig. 10A) small, sometimes only present on tergite III or (some females) absent altogether; all tibiae and tips of femora yellow in both sexes. Male frons at narrowest point nearly as wide as ocellar triangle, frontal vitta at this point distinct but less than one-third as wide as frons. Prealar seta one-half to nearly as long as posterior notopleural seta. Fore tibia with 1(‒2) p setae near middle. Sternite V and hypopygium as in Figs 10B–D. Taxonomic note. It is now evident that the existing records of Helina quadrum (Fabricius) from the Canary Islands are based on misidentifications of either H. reversio or H. santosabreui.
