The present study aims to measure the social media visibility of the LIS articles and to investigate the association between the classical citations with the social media citations of the LIS articles. The subject category “Library and Information Studies” was searched on the Altmeticss Explorer and major social media citations of the articles were collected and tabulated. The study findings reported that LIS articles were present on seventeen major social media platforms with a major intake on Mendeley and Twitter with 1510620 and 154514 altmetric events. Articles published in the “Scientometrics” journal attracted the highest social media attention with 18279 mentions for 1504 outputs. Geographical wise Twitter and Facebook mentions showed that citizens from the United States were active users of the articles. Finally, the Pearson correlation between the Dimensions citations with altmetric attention score showed a strong positive association with Pearson’s r-value of 0.792, justifying that altmetrics can be a supplemental to the classic metrics for research evaluation. |
