| Popis: | THE TECHNIQUE of anesthesia for acoustic neuroma surgery will be discussed. The points that will be considered are, in general, similar to those for anesthesia as used in other neurosurgical procedures. Certain variations, however, have been adopted for use in transtemporal acoustic tumor microsurgery as performed by members of the Otologic Medical Group. These will be emphasized. Preoperative Evaluation Preoperatively, the anesthesiologist visits the patient the evening before surgery. The patient will have been seen by an internist, and the anesthesiologist is aware of his medical condition. The procedure will have already been explained in the surgeon's office. The anesthesiologist further explains the anesthetic procedure, asks about any unusual drug reactions in the past, and answers any questions the patient may desire to ask. The preoperative medication is not unusual. A barbiturate for sleep is ordered, usually pentobarbital 100 mg is given and may be repeated if necessary. The |
