Popis: With the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to stop the spread of the virus, universities suspended face-to-face activities, implementing emergency remote teaching. Thus, the objective was to know the perception of university students about the implementation of remote teaching and in relation to the return to face-to-face activities in the pandemic. This is a qualitative and exploratory study, whose population was undergraduate and graduate students from two federal universities located in the southern region of Brazil. Data were collected with an online instrument via Google Forms, between September/2020 and February/2021 and analyzed with the Interface de R software pour les Analyzes Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires. Approval was obtained from the Ethics Committee of both higher education institutions. Academics highlighted, in relation to remote teaching, aspects such as the comfort of being at home, autonomy and flexibility in schedules, the difficulty of teachers with technology, in addition to the low concentration for carrying out activities. As for the return to face-to-face activities, it is understood that there was a desire to return, however there was also the fear of this being hasty and occurring in a negligent way. Therefore, evidence contributes to understanding the perception of university students and teaching in the pandemic period.
