Popis: | STUDIES in newborn animals have shown that maternal milk provides protection against infection and necrotizing enterocolitis. 1 One retrospective study in human infants suggests that they too may receive protection from infection by the ingestion of maternal milk. ~ Numerous constituents of human milk could assist in this protection, but emphasis has been placed t~pon the importance of the protective effects of immunoglobulins and of leukocytes.t :~. Previous studies have evaluated the effect of heat treatment of milk on immunoglobulin concentrations.:' '~ The present in vitro studies were completed to determine which factors may affect survival and viability of the leukocytes of human milk. |
