Popis: Time has become the focus of attention since both mothers and fathers, more than previously, have to divide theirs between vital caring duties and their responsibility to earn a living in a flexible work life. Together, the ‘stacked’ responsibilities are often regarded as constituting a ‘time bind’, particularly for women (Hochschild, 1997). Publicly funded daycare is depicted as a solution to this situation (Carnoy, 2002; Esping-Andersen et al., 2002; Fraser, 1994; Gornick and Meyers, 2003), and one that is within reach of most Norwegian parents. Accordingly, this chapter will explore the situation of parents participating in the new work life using daycare for their children. Important questions that will be discussed are how these parents experience the combination of a flexible work life and the use of daycare and whether daycare resolves their likely time bind.
