Popis: The world is facing two major threats in the way to establish food security. One is the changing climatic conditions for which global warming is the main reason and the other is the increasing population at an alarming rate. Just a few months back the news flashed that the world’s population has reached 8 billions and it is projected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050. To feed this enormously huge population we not only need crops which are climate smart but also have higher yield potential and quality nutrition. These 3 factors can be ensured by plant breeding. But the conventional methods of plant breeding like pureline selection, mass selection, pedigree method, bulk method takes 10+ years to release a variety. Do we have that much of time? The problem which arise today needs to be solved as soon as possible. Suppose we are targeting to develop a variety to tolerate heat stress. By the time the variety will release the temperature may rise by 2° more, which means all work in vain. Herein lies the significance of speed breeding, a very novel concept by which we can accelerate the plant breeding program and most importantly save the time. This poster is all about that.
