Popis: The authors jointly analyzed the data collected both by interviews and extracted by the adopted monitoring system. Interviews were submitted to the sample audience involved in the study, while the monitoring system was used to capture their facial expressions while attending the opera. The following information allows reviewers and editors to verify data source, processing procedure and finally reliability: The data were collected during the 11 opera performances (4 performances of Carmen, 3 performances of Macbeth, 4 performances of Rigoletto) held in the open-air neoclassic theatre Arena Sferisterio at Macerata (Italy) from July to August 2019. During each performance, 12 spectators were selected for the study and were monitored with the proposed system. An infrared camera was installed in front of them. At the end of the performance, spectators were asked to answer to a questionnaire by using a 1-5 Likert scale with verbal anchors. All involved spectators (132 people) were involved on a voluntary basis. The data were collected by the first author with the support of the theatre staff (2 involved persons for each performance). In particular, the first author attended all performances and was responsible for the IR camera installation, system's functioning and staff coordination. The staff persons used an iPad to fill the survey according to the spectators' answers. All collected data were analyzed by the second author. The last author supervised data processing procedure and the overall data processing procedure application. The third author was involved in the qualitative analysis of the results. The data are currently stored in the server owned by the Polytechnic University of Marche (both raw data and all tables used for statistical analysis)
