Popis: | Fibrillation threshold was determined in dogs under piritramide/N2O anaesthesia, by direct electrical stimulation of the myocardium by 50 Hz, AC in pulses of 0·20-0·28 msec during the vulnerable period, before and 3 min after acute ligation of the circumflex ramus of the left coronary artery. Ventricular fibrillation was converted into sinus rhythm after releasing the ligation and defibrillating. The same determinations were then repeated after intravenous administration of 0·5 mg/kg practolol. Fibrillation threshold current following coronary ligation fell on the average from 25·8 mA to 9·3 mA. The threshold current rose on an average, from 30·3 mA to 72·1 mA, after giving practolol. Values after subsequent coronary ligation lay at an average of 54·0 mA, this being approximately five times higher than after circumflex ligation without practolol. |
