Popis: | This report describes a patient with Gaucher disease type II who developed severe rhabdomy- olysis. We treated him successfully and meas- ured various cytokine and chemokine levels sequentially to elucidate the pathophysiology of rhabdomyolysis. The serum levels of interleukin- 6, − 8, − 10, granulocyte colony-stimulating fac- tor, interferon- γ , and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 were markedly elevated in the early phase of rhabdomyolysis. These fi ndings indicate that cytokines and chemokines are related to the massive myolysis and regenerating process. A viral infection may have triggered rhabdomy- olysis through exaggerated activation of macro- phages in our patient. The profi les of cytokines and chemokines should be examined in further cases to increase our understanding of the patho- physiology of rhabdomyolysis. |
