Popis: Longer chain N 1 -alkylnicotinamide chlorides ( N 1 -octyl to N 1 -dodecyl, inclusive) were shown to be effective inhibitors of NADH oxidation in rat liver submitochondrial particles. A positive chainlength effect was observed in this inhibition. Inability of these compounds to inhibit succinate oxidation or NADH reduction of ferricyanide in these particles indicated a point of inhibition of the electron transport chain between the oxygen side of NADH dehydrogenase and the point at which electrons from succinate oxidation enter the chain. N 1 -Decyl-3-methylpyridinium chloride was synthesized and demonstrated to function in Submitochondrial particles in a similar fashion to that observed with N 1 -alkylnicotinamide chlorides. N 1 -Decyl-3-methylpyridinium chloride was approximately five times more effective as an inhibitor of NADH oxidation than was N 1 -decylnicotinamide chloride.
