Popis: Dr. W. Brian Sweeney is the Associate Director of Surgical and Procedural Simulation at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and a Staff Colorectal Surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. Born in Sayre, Pennsylvania, Brian received his undergraduate degree from the University of Scranton. He earned his M.D. degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia and completed an internship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and a general surgery residency at the Robert Packer Hospital/Guthrie Medical Center, Sayre, PA. His colon and rectal surgery training was conducted at the University of Texas Affiliated Hospitals/Herman Hospital in Houston, TX. After completing his fellowship, Brian returned to the Navy as a Staff General and Colorectal Surgeon at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. After serving 4 years, Brian joined the staff at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Six years later, he moved to a large colorectal group practice in St. Paul, Minnesota. Seven years later, he moved to Columbia, South Carolina for a year and then moved to his present position in September 2007. Brian is board certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery and is an active participant in multiple surgical societies. He is an ad hoc reviewer of several journals and his contribution to the medical literature includes 27 peer-reviewed articles and seven book chapters. He has made multiple presentations at national meetings and is an active researcher. Brian, his wife, Sue, their six children (Carin, Matthew, Timothy, Kristin, Natalie, and Veronica) and two dogs (Java and Chloe) live in Holden, Massachusetts. When not working, Brian enjoys being with his wife Sue watching their children participate in athletic events and spending time whenever possible with their family and friends at the beach in Maryland.
