Popis: The article intents on presenting a preliminary survey on the occurrence of fxed polishing/sharpening stones on the Amazonian shoreline, based on research conducted at the Marau archaeological site, located in the Northeastern section of the Island of Mosqueiro (state of Para, Brazil), the closest island to the Island of Marajo. Little importance has been given to polishing/sharpening stones in Brazilian archaeology, and the few studies undertaken have dealt with sites located mainly in the South and Southeastern shorelines. Te initial results of this research may contribute to the technological and symbolical understanding of these sites on the Amazonian shoreline, and stimulate the development of research on polishing/sharpening stones in other parts of the country. With these thoughts in mind, we just suggest theoretical possibilities that may guide further research
