Popis: | The recent scientific statement of the transnational alliance for regenerative therapies in cardiovascular syndromes (TACTICS) provided an overview of the many challenges associated with pre-clinical and clinical studies of stem cell therapy for HF(1) and are providing a series of guidelines and recommendations for moving this field forward(1, 2). As part of this series, here we discuss the role of pre-clinical studies designed to advance stem cell therapies for CVD. The quality of this research has improved over the last 10–15 years and overall indicates that cell therapy promotes cardiac repair. However, many issues remain, including inability to provide complete cardiac recovery. Recent studies question the need for intact cells suggesting that harnessing what the cells release is the solution. Here we describe important breakthroughs and current directions in a cell-based approach to alleviating CVD. |
