Popis: Solid waste from health services (WHS) has gained special attention, notably because it is waste that can pose direct risks to the health of the community if proper management rules are not followed. The present study aimed to evaluate the management of WHS generated in a public hospital in the city of Itacoatiara (AM). Initially, the characterization of the hospital sectors was carried out and, then, the quantification of the WHS through a bibliographic survey. To evaluate the hospital's WHS management, a checklist was applied in order to verify compliance with the procedures related to waste management according to Anvisa's RDC nº 222/2018. It was possible to identify that the hospital unit has the generation of infectious, chemical, common and sharp waste, which is common in all sectors. Based on the literature, the generation of WHS in the hospital is characterized by the predominance of common waste, followed by infectious, sharp and chemical waste. Regarding the management of WHS, it was possible to observe non-conformities existing in the hospital, which can be explained through the lack of effectiveness in the implementation of the Health Service Waste Management Plan in the unit, which corroborates the lack of financial resources destined to that area. Therefore, the present study presented an evaluation of the WHS management of a public hospital in the interior of Amazonas, in order to serve as a basis for drawing up an internal policy of the service organization, in order to promote the improvement of the management of the WHS.
