Popis: Cultural heritage objects tend to change in appearance over timedue to weathering phenomena and physical force effects, such asgravity or wind. Simulating such phenomena can be a useful guidefor conservators and restorers. In this direction, the current paperproposes an aging simulation method which models the impactof physical forces using a particle-based approach. The proposedsimulation method enhances the realism of the aging simulationthrough the creation of realistically shaped geometry regions forthe decay formation under the effect of physical forces. Particularly, the case of gravitational accelerations effect was examined. The method is general and its application can be extended to differentkinds of materials and weathering phenomena. A metallicsculpture has been used as a case study and the qualitative resultspresented in each intermediate processing step, demonstrate theoverall functionality and the promising potential of the suggestedapproach in comparison with other existingmethods and the decayedappearance of cultural heritage objects in their natural environment.
