Popis: | A proficiency test for hepatitis-B antigen was carried out under the auspices of the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Bluttransfusion. 128 participants from 20 European countries reported results obtained with different methods in common use. The test panel of 50 sera contained 40 regarded as HB Ag-positive. The best results were obtained with the complement-fixation (CF) test, which gave correct results in 89% of all samples. Immuno-precipitation electrophoresis (IPE) gave 78%, the latex test 75%, and immunodiffusion 67%. The highest incidence of ‘false’ positives occurred in the latex test (11 out of 22), and there were more false positives with CF than with IPE. For IPE, agarose gave better results than agar on average. |
