Popis: | Various facilities to transmit Er:YAG laser radiation at a wavelength of 2,94 μm exist or are under development. Because the Er:YAG laser was primarily designed for medical applications, a proper transmission system for this laser has to meet the following requirements for medical as well as for physical and optical demands1,2,3,4: high transmission of the specific laser wavelength high damage threshold high flexibility low bending losses (to minimize them the numerical aperture should be at least 0.2, but not much larger than 0.5, to keep the beam divergence at the distal fiber end in an acceptable range) sterilizability low, or better no toxicity and/or hermetic sealing of the transmitting materials inertness to organic fluids such as blood durability against ablation debrides the material should not be hygroscopic acceptable costs and/or long lifetime |
