Tratar das transformações ocorridas no atual cenário da cidade de São Paulo induz ao estudo de sua composição e articulação regional. Fundada em 1554, a antiga Piratininga possui seu desenvolvimento histórico marcado pela inexpressividade econômica e conformação territorial. Com o processo de articulação de caminhos, diversificam-se os serviços prestados no antigo entreposto bandeirista, e a condição de passagem e potencial de articulação de caminhos se consolida, sendo reafirmada com a instauração de ferrovias, impulsionando ainda mais o crescimento local e sua articulação regional.
