The article is devoted to innovative technologies of teaching foreign languages. As modern students live in a special interactive-gaming space, gamification with the correct organization of the educational process helps to enhance the effectiveness of learning. Gaming activities can be used both as classroom and extracurricular technology. The purpose of the article is to understand the essence of gamification as a new educational technology; to determine the specificity of using gamification in an academic environment, to explore its potential in teaching foreign languages in HEI. Methodology. The tasks and specifics of the object under study led us to the use of synchronous-descriptive method with the elements of comparative analysis, simulation method, which contributed to the comprehensive study of the problem. The scientific novelty of the work is that for the first time the essence of the «gamification» concept has been structured and comprehensively investigated, as well as the increase of students' motivation to learn foreign languages by introducing gamification in the educational process. Conclusion. The peculiarities of gameplay implementation have been clarified. The basic game elements that should be used in the educational process using the technology of gamification are indicated. The examples of successful use of gamification in the process of teaching foreign languages are given. Gamification is getting more and more attractive educational practice that offers new forms of teaching and training. Visualization and simultaneous impact on different sensory organs activate cognitive activity and facilitate the assimilation of material. In the process of teaching a foreign language, the potential of gamification is to empower traditional learning. Foreign-language role-playing and situational games allow us to develop and improve students’ speaking, listening and vocabulary skills, promote personality and communication skills. |
