Popis: | AMONG several renal replacement therapies available for end-stage renal disease (ESRD), renal transplantation is the best option. Patients usually undergo renal transplantation after a variable period of pretransplant dialysis (PTD). For eligible patients when organs are available, the dialysis stage could be bypassed, namely, preemptive transplantation (PTX). Graft and patient survival has been compared in PTX and PTD in multiple studies and comparable (or even better) outcomes have been reported for PTX. However, a higher incidence of graft thrombosis in PTX has been reported in one study. PTX is more cost effective than PTD and therefore a better choice, especially in developing countries. In this study, we compared results of PTX and PTD among patients who underwent kidney transplantation from a living donor over the last 9 years to determine whether preemptive transplantation is a better choice. |
