Keloids have been described as benign, proliferative connective tissue growths localized in the dermis. Most authors assert that trauma always preceeds the formation of keloids (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). Although many theories have been postulated the primary cause for the formation of keloid remains unknown. Among these theories are: 1) metabolic disturbances (7, 8), 2) endocrine disfunctions (1, 2, 9) and 3) local factors (disbalance between the proliferating epidermis and dermis (10, 11), and foreign bodies (12, 13). |
