The purpose of this study is to find out about the English translation capacity of students majoring in English in Vietnam, as this is considered the main human resource for the Vietnamese translation industry at present. The study conducted a survey of 425 English language learners in two big cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, to find out the difficulties related to language, specialized knowledge and translation contexts. The results show that the students' translation ability is only average and they face a lot of difficulties in vocabulary, grammar, professional knowledge and translation context. From these findings, the study has proposed a few translation tricks and notes in the word conversion process to improve students' translation skills. |
