Popis: A set of changes have been brought to the procedure of manufacturing composites, consisting of coconut leaf fibre reinforcement in a polyester matrix, in order to improve their tensile strength. The fibres were first coated with a polyester resin. Two factors were then varied, namely, the amount of shell powder and coconut leaves fibre. Moreover, a weaving configuration of the fibre was used. The tensile strength of the composite was observed to increase with the fibre content. The largest tensile strength of the composite was observed to be 49.2 MPa, which was a 130 % improvement over the plain plastic material.
