Popis: | There is probably no other cemetery than the Alter Friedhof in the centre of the citiy of bonn where so many personalities are buried who were of such decisive importance for the history of the Old Catholic movement after the First Vatican Council (1870). The Old Cemetery is read as an "archive" for the history of death and gender; the inscriptions and sculptures of the tombs witness a gendered material history. At the same time the cemetery is a place of memory of attempts for reform within Catholicism during the 19th century. This contribution deals with some prominent theologians like Georg Hermes, whose work was condemned by Rome in the first half of the 19th century, and Johann Baptista Baltzer, an adherent of the philosopher Anton Günther. The article also focuses on women like the founder of a school for girls, Wilhelmine Ritter, her colleagues and some pupils of hers. Many of them are forgotten today. |
