Popis: | The Water Framework Directive (WFD 2000) defines macrophytes as one of the biological groups required for the ecological assessment of European surface waters. For the first step of the intercalibration exercise on the different existing macrophyte assessment methods a common macrophyte dataset was established containing abundance data on 789 macrophyte species from 313 different lake sites in ten European countries. Various common species and genera were identified to be indicative of reference and impacted conditions within the whole Lakes-Central/Baltic GIG. Cluster analyses supported by non-metric multidimensional scaling showed that macrophyte assemblages of sites do not necessarily cluster per lake type and correspond better to the source countries. Other factors such as regional climate effects and/or artefacts of differences in monitoring techniques might also contribute to this effect. JRC.H.1-Water Resources |
