In the recent past, organic–inorganic metal halide perovskites have shown remarkable performance in the field of photovoltaic. By varying the device architecture, their efficiencies have improved from as low as ~3.8% in 2009 to as high as ~22% presently. The device architecture consists of different layers, and by varying the fabrication methods of these layers, the power conversion efficiency is being continuously improved. So, this study highlights how the perovskites have been evolved and how their efficiencies have been improved by incorporating significant changes in the architecture. The importance of mesoporous, planar, and mesosuperstructured architecture has been discussed. Further, other miscellaneous architectures employing passivation, hydrophobic, self-cleaning coatings are discussed. In this perspective, the fundamentals of fabrication and the basic working mechanisms have been discussed. The challenges faced by these devices and their solutions have to be worked upon for exploiting perovskite solar cells for commercialization. |
