First case of infant botulism in Portugal

Popis: A clinical case of infant botulism was detected in Portugal. This rare occurrence was detected in a child provided from an immigrant family from Eastern Europe. Apart from breast milk, the parents also gave him honey and chamomile tea. Clostridium botulinum type B was identified after bacterial isolation in child faeces, honey and chamomile herbs samples. The Botulism neurotoxin (BoNT) B was detected in the faeces according to CDC Atlanta specific procedures.
