Popis: | Summary The habituation paradigm has become increasingly popular with investigators of infant perception and cognition. With this procedure, infants are repeatedly presented with a stimulus until their fixation time declines below some criterion based upon either the absolute length of several fixations or a proportion of the duration of initial looking times. Some have speculated that the rate at which an infant habituates somehow reflects his or her information processing efficiency or speed.2 The present study was conducted to determine whether either the number of trials to habituation or the length of fixation time is stable within a single session and/or across sessions scheduled one week apart. Forty-eight infants (X age = 120.54 days, SD = 1.03) were tested in their own homes. During the first session, each S was presented with a rear-projected arrow stimulus in either the 12:00 or 3:00 orientation, until his or her looking time declined to an habituation criterion defined as three consecutive sti... |
