| Popis: | This report describes a method for monolayer cell culture of adult rat pancreatic islets. In this procedure, the isolated islets of Langerhans were enzymatically dispersed and subsequently cultured for 2 to 3 weeks. Enhanced secretion of insulin was present over the basal secretion rate when the cultures were exposed to a high glucose concentration alone or to a combination of glucose, theophylline and glucagon. The ultrastructural studies of the beta cells in culture demonstrated preservation of their morphological characteristics throughout the culture periods. |
