Popis: | Trauma to the auricle is common because of its prominent and exposed position. The auricle is functionally, structurally, and esthetically a key component of the face. Auricular reconstruction, because of its intricate structure and complex form, is a challenging and daunting task for the surgeon. Although ear reconstruction was first referred to in the ancient medical epic from India, the Susrutu Sumhita, in which a cheek flap was described to replace the missing lobule, it has been over the past 50 years that significant advances have been made in this field.’ Diffenbach, Gilles, Tanzer, Converse, and Brent, among others, are associated with making significant contributions to ear reconstruction.’ With the exception of a few case reports, there is minimal discussion of this topic in the oral and maxillofacial surgery literature. The purpose of this article is to discuss the currently accepted therapy for the evaluation and treatment of the injured auricle. |
