Popis: prising the circle of Willis appeared to be of normal configuration. Coronal sections taken at approximately 1.5 cm. revealed prominence of the capillaries of the cortex and subcortical white matter. The ventricular system was remarkable in that the occipital horn on the left side was larger than the one on the right and had a coarctation at approximately 2 cm. from its posterior tip. Sections through the brainstem and cerebellum did not reveal any additional significant findings. Microscopic examination revealed acute thrombophlebitis involving superficial cortical veins. Widespread neuronal degeneration with marked capillary proliferation, increase in astrocytes, and extracellular mineral deposition characterized the cortical gray ribbon. Subcortical white matter showed diffuse extensive demyelination, decrease of oligodendroglia, and mineral deposits in the neuropil. SUMMARY A 7-year-old Mexican boy with a con
