Popis: | The report investigates an accident that involved a restrained 16-year old female driver whose motor vehicle struck a tree. The driver admitted falling asleep at the wheel and suffered a transient loss of consciousness. The patient underwent exploratory surgery that revealed seatbelt distribution ecchymosis across her lower abdomen and chest, and indicated a small amount of free air located near the duodenum. A majority of similar cases presented in the literature indicate the need for abdominal exploration for the cause of free air to avoid possible short-term complications. |
