Popis: | Injections of d -Mannoheptulose (M-H), which blocks insulin release, have been used to compare the changes in fasting metabolism of the sand rat ( Psammomys obesus ) and the laboratory white rat. Changes in O 2 consumption. CO 2 production. NPN excretion, and blood sugar were measured. The sand rat, which is adapted for desert life, differs from the laboratory rat in utilizing little or no fat when fasting. However, when utilization of carbohydrate is blocked by M-H, fat catabolism in the fasted sand rat reaches the same intensity as in the rat. |
