Popis: A group of 23 patients, affected by malignant diseases (n = 21) or suffering from inflammatory diseases (n = 2) and characterised by a general reduction in total lymphocytes and an altered CD4+: CD8+ ratio (mainly low), were enrolled in a phase II clinical trial studying the effect of oral treatment with lysozyme chloride. The cancer patients were mainly in complete remission (19 of 21) after anticancer treatment, but 2 had drug unmaintained stable minimal disease. Lysozyme treatment, 2 g/day for periods up to longer than 90 days, was started after a washout period of at least 60 days after chemotherapy.
