Popis: | Cuesta-Bandera C., Mcmanus D. P. and Rishi A. K. 1988. Characterization of Echinococcus granulosus of Spanish origin by DNA restriction endonuclease analysis and Southern blot hybridization. International Journal for Parasitology 18 : 137–141. Cloned DNA segments have been used as DNA probes in restriction endonuclease analysis and Southern blot hybridization to characterize E. granulosus material from Spain. Two genetic variants-a sheep/cattle/human form, very similar to the United Kingdom sheep strain, and a parasite from donkeys, genetically similar to the United Kingdom horse strain—have been identified using this approach. It is likely that these two variants represent distinct strains of E. granulosus although further assessment of the biological characteristics of both forms is now required to substantiate the DNA analysis. |
