Popis: | The echocardiogram is a standard tool in the treatment of patients with acute myocardial infarction. The role of echocardiography in establishing the diagnosis, location, and extent of myocardial infarction, in diagnosing mechanical complications of infarction, and providing prognostic information that is important for risk stratification is reviewed. The use of echocardiography in ischemic disease is based upon the rapid change in wall motion of a segment after an interruption or critical decrease in its blood supply. Importantly, the sensitivity is significantly higher than that for electrocardiography and is comparable to that for myocardial perfusion imaging. |
