Popis: | SUMMARY The effect of aerosols containing six related androgen steroids, either singly or in combination, were compared by observing the reaction to the "back pressure" test of pigs presented for insemination. All tests were carried out on pigs not kept in the vicinity of a boar and which had given an initial negative response to back pressure. The new steroid formulations were compared with sprays containing 5α-androst-16-en-3-one. None was found to be significantly more effective in eliciting a standing reaction, although androst-4, 16-dien-3-one and 5β-androst-16-en-3-one gave comparable results. The fertility of pigs inseminated after giving a positive response to steroid treatment was significantly better than that of pigs which did not give a positive response but which were nevertheless inseminated. |
