Kabaddi is a sport which originated in India. There is concrete evidence, that the game is 4000 years old. It’s a team sport, which requires both the characteristics of wresting and rugby. Kabaddi is played all over Asia with minor variations in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Japan, and Pakistan. Nutritional status plays an important role in the sports performance. In this aspect this study was carried out to find out the nutritional status of kabaddi players with these objectives (i) to collect the socio-economic profile of the kabaddi players, (ii) to assess the nutritional status of the subjects by ABD method and (iii) to compare the nutritional status of the subjects reference with RDA.The data was collected from male and female kabaddi players through interview schedule by interview method. Collected data was analyzed manually with the help of simple statistical tools such as percentage, mean, standard deviation and ‘chi – Square test. This study concluded that compare to female players, male players are higher in the age group of>21 years. Male subjects are spent more time to practice compare to female subjects. Majority of the male and female (90% and 40%) subjects skip their meals due to lack of time in afternoon meals. No difference was found between male and female player in the aspect of BMI level. That there is no significant relationship was found between duration for practice and level of being a player. There is no significant relationship was found between kabaddi players present in the type of family and level of participants in kabaddi by χ2 test. |
