Popis: Contributors to journals of learned societies usually focus their attention on advanced studies in areas of their own primary interest. Music theorists are no exception to the rule. Relatively few have concerned themselves extensively in print with the educational philosophy which determines the character of undergraduate classroom activities in music theory-these are all too often left to the concern of administrators and music educators. In the following pages I hope to demonstrate the need for more of the scholars of the Society for Music Theory to address themselves to numerous problems of classroom teaching which require thoughtful attention and solution.
