Popis: Dr Schulman mentioned sex selection utilizing separated X and Y spermatozoa which has a clear advantage over sex selection by preimplantation genetic diagnosis, abortion or female infanticide. All the latter techniques are illegal in India but all are practised very widely. I think people in this country and Europe do not know the impunity with which we break such laws in our country. Now this has two very important aspects of which I think we should take cognisance because we are talking about ethics and morality. First, in India, in spite of all these happenings, we have an anachronistic situation. Women occupy the top positions in every profession in India; some 40% of the civil service consists of women. Women occupy top positions in banks, in finance companies, in industry and in the Supreme Court. Yet we often abort a female fetus or engage in female infanticide.
