While many studies on the effects of duration of steady-state sound have so far been presented, there are few studies for non-steady sounds. This paper shows the effects of duration longer than 2 s for impulsive sounds, using repeated impulsive sounds of 1 kHz pure tone and real-life printer sounds. From this study, the following conclusions have been reached: (1) Noisiness of both test sounds grows systematically with duration from 2 to 256 s. (2) The penalty for doubling of duration is about 5 dB for the 1 kHz pure tone impulses and about 3 dB for the printer sound. The latter value is consistent with that for steady-state sound. (3) The difference of doubling of duration penalties between both sounds depends mainly on the difference of level fluctuation between them. |
