Vallalar, Vaikundar and Narayanaguru were the pioneers of the devotional revolution in South India. They devised a new tactic in devotion to bring back them from superstitions and priesthood atrocities. Ayya is an embodiment of love. Vallalar says that “whenever he saw a withered crop, he withered”. Vaikundar says that “Dharma is to defend the oppressed”. The people of Nanjil worship the incarnation of Ayya Vaikundar as the incarnation of Narayanan. Vaikundar was the one who put an end to the untouchability and many faceted atrocities that prevailed in the Nanjil country. Swamithoppu, is the chief temple of Vaikundar.
