Popis: Before individuals are involved in criminal activities, they usually move through different involvement stages, with each stage bringing them closer to engaging in crime. The reverse is true for desistance, the process of quitting crime. Taken together, these stages are called pathways. Knowledge of these processes can help develop interventions aimed at preventing cyber-dependent and financially motivated cyber-enabled crime (hereafter: cybercrime). This is an important topic, given the global increase in both the scope and damage of cybercrime. Unfortunately, to date there has been relatively little empirical research into pathways into and desistance from cybercrime. Moreover, such research is spread across various domains, like criminology, psychology, neurobiology, and computer science. Therefore, an overview and synthesis of research on the pathways to cyber crime is needed to present the existing knowledge in an orderly fashion. However, so far, such an overview is lacking. This systematic review will therefore map the pathways into and out of cybercrime, as well as interventions aimed at these processes, and research gaps.
