Combination of methotrexate and external irradiation in advanced cancer patients

| Popis: | 30 patients with very advanced carcinoma were treated by cobaltotherapy combined with methotrexate given by courses of 48 h duration followed by rescue treatment with folinic acid. Response was observed in 18 out of 32 courses. Median survival was 5 months when concentrated irradiation and 3 months when usual fractionation irradiation were used. Toxicity was tolerable. There was no difference in the response rate with regard to the degree of histological differentiation of the tumors. The problem of maintenance chemotherapy to prolong the duration of the remission is raised. |
